Strap bare skin and the tape grabs hair and skin, and peeling it off at full time stings. A layer of foam underwrap sits between the two: a thin, non-adhesive foam you wrap over the skin first, so the rigid or elastic tape grips the underwrap instead of you. It goes on fast and tears by hand, no scissors on the bench.
This is a 70mm x 27m roll of soft foam underwrap in beige/flesh, the pre-taping layer trainers run under an ankle, knee or wrist strap. It is the non-adhesive foam type, which lies against the skin and is held in place by the tape over it, not the self-adhesive underwrap that tacks to itself. The foam carries no skin-contact adhesive, so it reduces rubbing at the skin-and-tape interface, makes the tape easier to peel off, and cuts the hair-pull when the strapping comes off. It tears cleanly by hand, which is what lets you wrap a limb quickly without reaching for scissors.
Underwrap needs an anchor to hold position, so spray the skin with an adhesive spray first or let the tape's end anchors pin it, then strap over the top. One 27m roll covers plenty of applications, which suits a club running a squad through on game day or a trainer restocking the kit bag. It is a comfort and skin-protection layer that goes under the tape, not a support in its own right, so the holding job stays with the rigid or elastic tape over it.
Straptor is Australian owned and run, dispatched nationally and stocked at the East Bendigo walk-in, with phone advice from people who strap tape themselves. It sits next to the rigid strapping tape and the rest of the accessories you use with it, so a club can order the whole bench in one go.

What's in the box
- One roll of foam underwrap
Usage
Wrap the underwrap over the area you plan to strap before the tape goes on. Because it does not stick to skin, give it an anchor: a light coat of adhesive spray on the skin first, or the end anchors of the rigid or elastic tape pinning it at each end. Apply the strapping tape over the top as normal. To remove, cut or unwind the tape and the underwrap together at the end of play.
Care and storage
Store the roll somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sun. Keep it in its packaging between uses so the foam stays clean.
Common questions
What does foam underwrap actually do? It sits between your skin and the strapping tape. That cuts the rubbing and the hair-pull, and makes the tape far easier to peel off afterwards.
Does it stick to skin? No. It is a non-adhesive foam, so it needs the tape's anchors or a spray of adhesive on the skin to hold position.
Does it support the joint on its own? No. Underwrap is a comfort and skin-protection layer. The support comes from the rigid or elastic tape you strap over it.
How wide is it and how much is on a roll? 70mm wide and 27m long, which covers plenty of ankles, knees or wrists before you reach the end.
Run it under the strapping tape it sits below, or pair it with a roll of rigid strapping tape for a full ankle strap. You will find it alongside the rest of the strapping accessories, and there is a walk-through of how underwrap sits under an ankle strap in the taping guides.
