This underwrap sticks to the skin as a base layer, so the rigid tape grips the underwrap instead of gripping you. That is the difference from a foam pre-wrap: it has its own adhesive backing, so it stays put on its own, no spray or separate anchor needed to stop it sliding. It goes down first, then the firm strapping tape goes over the top.

This is a self-adhesive sports underwrap in white, on 50mm or 100mm x 10m rolls, the base layer trainers run under a rigid strap. Unlike a non-adhesive foam pre-wrap, it carries its own adhesive backing, so it holds on the skin while you build the strap over it. The material is porous, so air and sweat pass through rather than sitting trapped against the skin. The rigid tape then grips the underwrap, which takes its firmer zinc-oxide adhesive off the skin and reduces the rubbing and the pull when the strapping comes off.

The 50mm width suits wrists, thumbs and smaller joints; the 100mm covers knees, thighs and larger areas. It is a comfort and skin-protection layer that goes under the tape, not a support in its own right, so the holding job stays with the rigid or elastic tape over it. Single rolls suit a kit bag, and the same underwrap is stocked in bulk boxes for a club strapping a squad every week.

Straptor is Australian owned and run, dispatched nationally and stocked at the East Bendigo walk-in, with phone advice from people who strap tape themselves. It sits alongside the rigid tape and the spray you use with it, so a club can kit the whole bench from one order.

What's in the box

  • One roll of adhesive underwrap, in the width you select (50mm or 100mm)

Usage

Apply the underwrap over the area you plan to strap, smoothing it onto the skin so the adhesive takes hold. Because it sticks on its own, you do not need a spray or a separate anchor to keep it in place. Strap the rigid or elastic tape over the top as normal. To remove, unwind or cut the tape and the underwrap together at the end of play.

Care and storage

Store the roll somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sun. Keep it in its packaging between uses so the adhesive stays clean.

Common questions

What does adhesive underwrap do? It goes on the skin first as a base, so the rigid tape grips the underwrap rather than sticking straight to you. That takes the firmer tape adhesive off the skin and makes the strapping easier to get off afterwards.

How is it different from foam underwrap? This one carries its own adhesive, so it stays put on the skin on its own. Foam underwrap is non-adhesive and needs the tape or a spray of adhesive to hold it in place.

Does it support the joint on its own? No. It is a skin-protection base layer. The support comes from the rigid or elastic tape you strap over it.

Which width should I choose? 50mm for wrists, thumbs and smaller joints; 100mm for knees, thighs and larger areas.

Run it under a roll of rigid strapping tape for a full ankle or knee strap, or browse the whole Straptor tape range. If you would rather a layer that does not stick to the skin, there is the non-adhesive foam underwrap that the tape or a spray holds in place instead. The spray and accessories you strap with are stocked alongside, and there is a walk-through of how underwrap sits under an ankle strap in the taping guides.

Perfect Under Tape

I have been a physio for a about 6 years now and have worked for the NRL for 2 years, so I have used my fair share of different underwraps. This is by far the easiest to use due to the high quality of the tape. It does not fold back on itself, the backing comes off each and the curvy cut in the middle take away the battle of backing vs tape. It sticks super well even without adhesive spray and does not cause irritation for my clients.

I was disappointed with this product. It is very thin and has poor adhesion. I was looking for something that matched the Elastoplast Sport Elastowrap, the stock made in China not Spain, unfortunately this wasn't it.
