An ankle brace earns its place when a sleeve is not enough but a rigid lace-up is more than you need. This one wraps the joint in a figure-8 for compression and support, with an adjustable side closure you pull to the tension that suits the session. It comes in four sizes and works on either foot, which puts it in the middle ground of the ankle-brace range.

The build is a spiral-lift elastic construction that holds a graduated compression through the figure-8 without locking the ankle solid. It is ventilated, so heat and sweat escape and the brace stays cooler through a longer session. The side closure lets you get it on over a swollen or tender ankle rather than forcing your foot through a fixed opening, then set the support firmer or lighter as the ankle settles. One brace covers a left or a right foot, so there is no side to get wrong at the checkout.

For an ankle that has been sprained before, external support has a genuine evidence base. Reviews of ankle tape and brace studies report a 50 to 70 percent reduction in repeat sprains among people with a prior ankle injury, with much weaker evidence for stopping a first sprain. Which support you choose is a comfort-and-firmness call: this elastic brace sits at the lighter, adjustable end, while the lace-up option in the same grid is the firmer hold. If you are working back from a recent injury, a physiotherapist can tell you which end of that spectrum suits you.

Straptor stocks the ankle-brace range side by side, so you can weigh the light adjustable braces against the firmer lace-ups before you commit, with the tape range right next to it if you are deciding between bracing and strapping. Everything is shipped nationwide, with walk-in at our East Bendigo store and phone advice from people who actually brace and strap ankles. Clubs and physios kitting out a squad can reorder by phone or over the counter at East Bendigo.

  • One adjustable elastic ankle brace (a single brace, not a pair)

Usage

Measure around the ankle in a figure-8 pattern to choose your size. Apply the brace with the ankle in a neutral position, set the side closure to a firm but comfortable tension, and adjust it as the ankle settles during use. The same brace works on a left or a right ankle. Around sport, fit it before activity rather than after the ankle has swollen.

Care and storage

Hand washable. Let it air dry rather than machine dry to keep the elastic and the closure working.

Common questions

Is this a pair or a single brace? Each pack is one brace, worn on either the left or right foot. For both ankles you would need two.

How do I pick a size? Measure around the ankle in a figure-8 and match it to the bands: SML up to 45cm, MED 45cm to 50cm, LGE 50cm to 55cm, XLG 55cm and over. If you fall between two bands, the larger size is easier to get on over a swollen ankle and the smaller gives a firmer hold.

Brace or tape? For an ankle with a history of sprains, both a brace and rigid tape have support evidence. A brace is reusable and quicker to fit; tape is more adjustable to the joint. Our ankle taping guide walks through the trade-off, and a physiotherapist is the right call if you are returning from a recent injury.

Does it contain latex? The manufacturer does not specify the latex content. If you have a latex allergy, call or email us before you order.

Compliance and claims

This is an ankle support brace, described here for compression, support and stabilisation. It is not presented to treat, cure or prevent injury. The recurrent-sprain figure above is category-level research on external ankle support for people with a prior ankle injury, not a claim about this specific brace or a promise of a particular result. If you are managing a current or recent injury, see a physiotherapist.

For the wider range, see our braces and supports. To compare options at the ankle specifically, browse the ankle braces on offer, where the firmer lace-up Thrive Jetlace sits alongside this lighter elastic brace. Still deciding between a brace and strapping? Our guide to taping an ankle covers the tape-versus-brace call.
