This is a full-extension knee immobiliser: a rigid three-panel brace that holds the knee straight and limits side-to-side movement at the joint. It is a full-immobilisation brace, not a sports support you would strap on for a game. Whether it is the right brace for you, and how long to wear it, are decisions for the health professional managing your knee.

The brace uses three rigid panels along the leg with hook-and-loop (Velcro) straps that adjust to the shape of the leg, so one length fits a range of leg sizes. Held closed, it keeps the knee in full extension and restricts the side-to-side (mediolateral) movement a bare knee allows. It opens flat, which means it can be positioned without working the leg through its range.

It comes in four lengths sized by height, not by circumference: 40cm, 48cm, 50cm and 60cm. It is sometimes called a Zimmer splint, so that is the same product if a clinician has used that name.

Straptor is Australian owned and run, and this immobiliser sits alongside the wider braces and supports range, dispatched nationally and stocked at the East Bendigo walk-in.

Usage

The brace is worn along the leg with the knee held straight and the straps fastened firm enough to hold the leg still without cutting off circulation. Fitting, suitability and wear time are matters for your treating health professional, so follow their instructions. If the leg goes numb or cold, loosen the straps and check with your clinician.

Common questions

Which size should I choose? Size by the wearer's height using the guide above, not by knee circumference. The 48cm and 50cm both suit 165cm to 180cm, so order the shorter 48cm at the lower end, or call us if you are between sizes.

Compliance and claims

Australian owned and run. This is an immobilisation and support brace: it holds the knee straight and limits side-to-side movement. Fitting, suitability and wear time are decisions for your treating health professional. No therapeutic outcome is claimed on this page.

See our wider braces and supports range if you are comparing options. Physiotherapists and clinics can call us to check sizing before ordering for a patient, and we will point any buyer the right way.
