A spine board is a rigid transfer board for moving a patient off the ground, out of a vehicle or through a confined space. This one is moulded from durable plastic, measures 1840mm long, takes a rated load up to 135kg and comes with three removable, adjustable straps. It's ground-safety kit for clubs and the trained responders who carry it.

The board is built for patient handling in an emergency: lifting someone off the ground, sliding them clear of a car or carrying them through a doorway or a tight space. It stays rigid the full length, so it holds flat under load, and at 10kg the board is light enough for a small team to carry it with a patient on it. The three straps are removable and adjust along the board, so they sit where the patient needs them.

At 1840mm by 450mm by 60mm the board gives room to work, and the 135kg rated load covers a wide range of patients. A spine board is equipment for trained hands. Use it in line with your first aid or emergency-response training, and where a spinal injury is suspected, patient handling and any decision to move rest on that training and on clinical advice at the scene, not on a product page.

Straptor is Australian owned and run, with a Bendigo walk-in store and phone advice from people who kit out clubs and grounds. The spine board sits in the range beside the fold-up stretchers and the rest of the ground-safety gear, shipped nationwide, so a club can set up its sideline from one place.

Usage

Lay the board alongside the patient, move them onto it and secure them with the three straps before lifting. It's built for transfer and extrication: getting a patient off the ground, clear of a vehicle or through a confined space. A spine board is a trained-use item, so moving a patient with a suspected spinal injury follows your first aid or emergency-response training and the clinical advice on the scene.

Care and storage

Wipe the board and straps down after use so they're clean for the next callout. Store the board flat or hung, out of direct sun, and check the straps and buckles are sound before it goes back in the kit.

Common questions

What is it made of? Durable plastic, rigid the full length. How much weight does it take? It's rated to a 135kg working load. How heavy is the board itself? 10kg, so a small team can carry it with a patient on it. How many straps come with it? Three, removable and adjustable along the board. Who is it for? Trained first-aiders and club ground-safety kits; using a spine board is a trained skill, not a DIY job.

The spine board is part of the stretcher and rescue range clubs keep in the ground-safety kit.
