These are the paediatric pads for the Philips HeartStart HS1, the cartridge you load when the person needing help is a young child rather than an adult. As soon as it's inserted, the HS1 switches to a lower, child-appropriate shock level and guides the responder through paediatric pad placement. Reference M5072A, for children under eight years or under about 25kg.
The HS1 reads the cartridge the moment it's loaded and adjusts its settings for a smaller patient, so a responder doesn't have to change anything under pressure. The pads carry a teddy bear icon and a weight marking for fast identification in a kit, and the cartridge shows pictorial placement directions so the pads go on correctly the first time.
This cartridge is made for the HeartStart HS1 specifically, the model also sold as the OnSite and the Home. It is not the paediatric option for the HeartStart FRx, which takes a separate infant/child key, so check your unit before ordering. It sits alongside your adult pads rather than replacing them, so keep both in the case and the HS1 is ready for either patient.
Electrode pads are a dated consumable. Check the date printed on the pack and diarise the next swap rather than assuming a spare is still current. Straptor stocks the HS1 pads next to the AEDs, batteries and accessories they pair with, so a club, school or workplace can keep one first aid supplier for the whole defibrillator kit.
Straptor is Australian owned and run, with phone advice from people who know the defibrillator range and a walk-in counter at East Bendigo.

What's in the box
- One Philips HeartStart HS1 paediatric SMART pads cartridge (a pre-connected set of child pads in a single load-in cartridge)
Usage
Load the cartridge into the HeartStart HS1 in place of the adult pads when the patient is a young child. The HS1 recognises it and switches to paediatric settings, then talks the responder through pad placement using the printed pictures. If the patient is eight or older, or over about 25kg, use the standard adult pads. In any cardiac emergency, call 000 first and follow the AED's voice prompts.
Care and storage
Store the sealed cartridge at room temperature in the defibrillator's case or a known kit location. Check the date on the pack at each first aid check and replace it before it lapses, since expired pads should not be relied on in an emergency.
Common questions
Which defibrillator does this fit? The Philips HeartStart HS1, the model also sold as the OnSite and the Home. It does not fit the HeartStart FRx, which uses a separate infant/child key.
Who is it for? Children under eight years or under about 25kg (55 lb), infants included. For anyone older or heavier, use the adult pads.
Do these replace my adult pads? No. Keep both in the kit so the HS1 is ready for a child or an adult.
How long do they last? They are a dated consumable. Check the date on the pack and replace the cartridge before it lapses.
For adult pads, batteries and complete units, see the full defibrillator range. If you're still choosing a unit, the defibrillator information page sets out the options.
