This is a moon boot: a rigid walking brace that holds the foot and lower leg still while you stay mobile. It is also called a cam walker or walking boot, and it wraps the lower leg in a firm outer shell with adjustable straps. Whether it's the right boot for you, and how long to wear it, are decisions for the health professional managing your foot or ankle.

The boot pairs a rigid outer shell with a cushioned lining and a shock-absorbing insole, so the leg is held firm while the padding takes the pressure. Adjustable front straps pull the shell in to the shape of the leg, a contoured rocker-style sole helps you walk more evenly with the boot on, and it fits either foot.

It comes in two heights. The long boot extends further up the lower leg for more coverage; the short boot sits lower, below the calf. Both run in four sizes, XS to L, and each boot is supplied on its own rather than as a pair. Which height and size suit you is a question for your treating clinician.

Straptor is Australian owned and run, and the moon boot sits in the wider recovery range, dispatched nationally and stocked at the East Bendigo walk-in. If you're unsure which height or size to order, call and we'll talk it through first.

Usage

The boot is worn over a sock with the foot flat inside and the straps fastened firm enough to hold the leg still without cutting off circulation. Fitting and wear time are matters for your treating health professional. If the foot or toes go numb, cold or change colour, loosen the straps and check with your clinician.

Returns

Because a moon boot is worn against the skin, it can't be returned or exchanged for change of mind once it has been used, for hygiene reasons. That doesn't affect your rights if the product is faulty, so confirm the height and size before ordering. There is no self-fit size chart, so ask your clinician or our team if you're unsure.

Common questions

Can I walk in it? Yes, it's a walking brace and the shaped sole is built for walking with the boot on. How much weight-bearing is right for you is a question for your clinician.

Long or short, which do I need? The long boot covers more of the lower leg, the short sits lower below the calf, and your clinician will advise which height suits you.
