The Adult Pad-Pak is a single-use cartridge that combines a defibrillator's electrode pads and its battery in one unit, with a single expiry date to track. It clips into a HeartSine samaritan PAD and is the part you replace when the pads or battery reach end of life, so there is one consumable to reorder rather than two separate items.

The grey colour marks this as the adult cartridge, for patients aged eight and over or weighing more than 25kg. It fits the HeartSine samaritan PAD 350P, 360P and 500P. For a child under 8 years or under 25kg you use the pink Paediatric-Pak instead, which is a separate cartridge sold on its own.

Each Pad-Pak carries a four-year shelf life from the date of manufacture and holds enough charge for 60 shocks or six hours of continuous monitoring. When the battery drops to ten shocks or fewer, the samaritan PAD status indicator turns from green to red and sounds a prompt, so a club or workplace knows to order a replacement before the cartridge expires.

Usage

Fit the Pad-Pak into the base of the HeartSine samaritan PAD until it clicks, following the instructions supplied with the defibrillator. Note the expiry date printed on the cartridge, and replace it once it reaches that date or after it has been used. Keeping a spare Pad-Pak with the unit means the AED stays ready between checks.

Care and storage

Store the Pad-Pak in its sealed pouch at room temperature and out of direct heat until it is fitted. Check the expiry date as part of your regular AED checks. Do not open the pouch until you are ready to install the cartridge.
