These are the paediatric defibrillation pads for the Cardiac Science Powerheart G5 AED, sized smaller than the adult pads and set for a child. The G5 recognises the paediatric pads automatically as soon as they're connected and lowers its energy output to a paediatric level, so the rescuer doesn't switch a setting. Keep a set on hand if there's any chance you'll treat a child under eight years old or under 25 kg.

The Powerheart G5 uses a separate pad set for children rather than one universal pad, and this is the paediatric one. The pads are smaller so they sit correctly on a child's chest, and they carry a non-polarised design, so it doesn't matter which pad goes where as long as the placement images are followed. Placement guidance is printed on the pads themselves.

The paediatric energy step is handled by the pads and the unit together: once the G5 detects that the paediatric pads are fitted, it reduces its shock energy to the lower level set for a smaller patient. Each set has a two-year shelf life, so the pads sit alongside your battery and adult pads as another expiry date to keep current on your defibrillator check. One order supplies a single paediatric pad set, reference XELAED003C.

Straptor is Australian owned and run, with the paediatric pads stocked next to the AEDs, batteries and adult pads a club or workplace keeps current, and phone advice on hand if you're not sure which pads suit your unit. To match them against what you already run, see the defibrillators and AED consumables we carry.

  • One set of Cardiac Science Powerheart G5 paediatric defibrillation pads (reference XELAED003C)

Usage

Connect the paediatric pads to the Powerheart G5 when the patient is a child under about eight years old or under 25 kg. The G5 recognises the paediatric pads once they're connected and sets its shock energy to the paediatric level on its own. Apply the pads to the child's bare chest following the placement images printed on the pads, and let the unit voice-prompt you through the rest of the sequence. Keep the pads sealed until you need them, and fit and use them per Cardiac Science's own instructions supplied with the G5.

Care and storage

Store the sealed pads at room temperature and check the printed expiry date whenever you check the defibrillator. Replace them by the printed date, or straight after any use, since defibrillation pads are single-use. Keep the paediatric set stored with the G5 so it's on hand alongside the adult pads.

Common questions

Which defibrillator do they fit? The Cardiac Science Powerheart G5 AED. These are G5 paediatric pads and are not compatible with other AED models.

When do I use the paediatric pads instead of the adult ones? For a child under about eight years old or under 25 kg. For an adult or an older child, use the adult G5 pads.

Do I have to change a setting for a child? No. The G5 detects the paediatric pads once they're connected and lowers its shock energy to the paediatric level on its own.

Does it matter which pad goes where? The pads are non-polarised, so either pad can go in either position. Follow the placement images printed on the pads.

How long do they last? Two years from the pack date, and they're single-use, so replace them by the printed date or after any use.

Not sure the paediatric pads match your unit, or want the adult G5 pads on hand as well? Read how an AED fits into a club's emergency kit for how the unit, its battery and its pads work together.
